94 per cent of British holidaymakers admit they’ll go upwards of 500 over budget whilst on holiday, doubling the average holiday budget figures, according to new research. The findings †from a recent OnePoll.com survey of 6,000 Brits commissioned by TravelSpec.com †reveal that, even with lower holiday prices and tighter budgets, most people admit to excessively spending in order to make the most of their holiday. 72 per cent of Brits have an average holiday budget of up to 500. However, with so many discounted package deals on offer, many feel justified in spending more once they’re actually away. A lot of Brits experience â€holiday head’ before they even board the plane. 78 per cent confess to spending frivolously before they fly, blowing up to 10 per cent of their budget in duty free stores on cigarettes, alcohol, beauty products and other luxuries. Men tend to be more extravagant than women, with 74 per cent of male travellers spending up to 50 on duty free products. Women are slightly more frugal, with only 40 per cent spending 50 or above.
