A legitimate home-based business, like some network marketing efforts, can provide a strong income if you"re a hard worker and a self-starter. However, there are costs. If you"re in any business, especially network marketing, you may have heard the expression, "you have to spend money to make money." As much as any new business hates to hear it, this is at least partially true. There are inherent costs to starting any business, even network marketing. You might have to pay phone costs to keep in contact with your clients. Or maybe you want to send out mailers or advertise locally to bring in more clients. These are all without the cost of actually setting up shop and purchasing an office space. Working from home is not usually "free." However, you can minimize the costs, thanks to new methods of getting the word out and promoting your products. With the internet, and the wild popularity of social media, you can promote almost anything with little to no cost to yourself. How? * Social Media""Sites like Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, and many more are all free resources for you. By building profiles on these sites, you can raise awareness for your product or service, and connect with people and potential customers. With social media, though, it"s important to treat it like any social activity. The same rules apply. Be polite, friendly, and help your friends out. By providing useful information to your friends (or "followers," as Twitter calls them), people will be more likely to be a part of your social media circle""and stay that way. They may even tell their friends, and start people talking. This is the most important tool in marketing""word of mouth marketing. Word-of-mouth marketing is not only the most effective by far, but it is also, inherently, free! It"s based on the idea of people telling their friends and family about your product, spreading the word through people who are trusted and reliable. In any marketing or sales effort, this should be your ultimate goal. * Utilize email and other free correspondence to talk directly to your clients. It"s important to keep lines of communication open with your customers (and potential customers) at all times. Never think that you don"t need to follow up with customers or build relationships with the people you hope to make into customers. *Don"t try to go for all of the public at once. Going after every potential customer, especially at first, is nearly impossible. Try dividing the market into small, manageable "niches," based on their interests. This will make it easier to cater your message and product to what they need most, and result in a greater chance for successful sales.
