By following these guide lines in this article you will be able to build an excellent windmill that not only make a lot of electricity for you, but will also work the way it is suppose to. Picking the Style of Windmill That Suits You Fixed windmill is just one of the type of windmill that you will learn about. Fixed windmills are the ones that are mounted to face only one direction, this is because where it is located the wind only blows in one direction. The second type of windmills are called the "Dutches" which is usually around the US wind farms." The Dutch windmill has a rotatable head so the blade will always face the direction the wind is blowing. If the area that you live at has wind blowing in one direction then the fixed mounted windmill is the right choice for you. The Dutch windmill is more expensive than the fixed, because of the extra equipment it needs to make the top of the mill movable. So you will be better off with the fixed style of windmills since you only have wind coming from one direction. The Best Place to Put Your Windmill Here is an obvious answer, place at a location where the windmill gets the most exposure to the wind. The real answer might not be so obvious, if you have a windmill then you will need vertical space that is unobstructed by wires and trees. If you plan on building a Dutch windmill then you will need enough space for the head of the windmill to rotate in a full 360 degree circle. But with a fixed mounted windmill you will only need enough space for the blades and the head to be faced in one position only. Make the Windmill That Meets Your Needs If you are going to a Dutch style of windmill then you have to use solid steel blades. But if you are planning on building a Fixed mounted style windmill then you should use wooden blades with sails or caves draped over the blades. Once you have the windmill assembly, tilt the blades slightly so they catch the wind, plus move the head accordingly against the direction of the wind. To build the base of the windmill, attach one of the 90-degree PVC fitting to one of the 6-inch PVC pipe sections and then attach the other end of the 6-inch piece to the T fitting. Make sure that you do not use super glue at first when you fit the PVC pipes together, make sure they fit first. Use a hammer to tap the PVC pipes into place to make it sound and secure. Once you have the base with the T build, you have to then attach another 6-inch piece to the other side of the T fitting, so that it forms a straight line from the 90-degree fitting. After you have finished that, close off the 6-inch piece with another 90 degree fitting. Once you are done building that one build another one just like it. Now you attach a 6-inch PVC piece to each part of the T fitting that are open. Then attach those two 6-inch pieces to the last T fitting and have the hole of the T facing the opposite direction of the 90-degree fittings.
