Can Quartz Crystal Silica Prevent And Treat Diabetes?

By: Gen Wright Home | Health-and-Fitness

All those Hollywood icons and supermodel contest winners make us believe that good health lies in the products they endorse. They talk about how a particular product has changed their life or made them healthy and happy. However, we all subconsciously know that more than half of this talk is merely hogwash.

The true measure of good health is nothing but a good immune system, which in turn is a result of good nutrition. If you feel healthy inside, you will look healthy outside. While we all have the basic diet comprising of proteins, vitamins and carbohydrates, there are some minerals and vitamins, which make a huge difference between good health and an average health.

One of these minerals is silica. Silica is the most abundant substance on the earth after carbon. You find it in sand, glass, and stones and in the modern world, in everything that runs by electricity. Recent research has shown that silica is present in our bodies as well!

Though some amount of silica is present in every cell of our body, this mineral can be found in higher quantities in places like hair, skin, blood vessels and cartilage. This mineral is instrumental in enhancing the sheen of your hair, making your skin glow and strong nails. Therefore, silica is essential if you are looking for something that can make you look naturally beautiful.

Silica is a micro-nutrient that can be obtained from certain plant and grain sources. However, the issue with this is that many a times when these food items are processed, this silica can get converted into silicates that are not absorbed by the body in their present form. They need to be converted into orthosilicic acid through the process of hydrolization in the stomach. However, according to some experts, the body is unable to get sufficient amount of orthosilicic acid from every day food.

This is the reason like other vitamins, silica supplements are also recommended by some doctors. A research conducted in the year 1993 by G. Stendig-kindberg et al. on women concluded that ingesting silica supplements actually helped in increasing the density of bone mass in women. This helps in preventing all bone related problems like arthritis and other such disorders.

Another important role for silica is that it can help with diabetes by boosting synthesis of elastase, which is an enzyme that hinders the pancreas. Research conducted on BB-rats concluded that 1 in 31 (received silica supplements) of them was diagnosed with spontaneous diabetes compared to 9 in 31 that was not treated with silica. Silica is highly specific in its action against macrophages, their observations indicated an important role of these cells in the pathogenesis of diabetes.

The world is slowly waking up to the benefits of minerals like Silica that not only help in increasing the quantity but quality of life as well.
