Canon Rebel Xsi " The First Eos Digital Slr Camera That Uses Both Sd And Sdhc Storage Devices

By: Fred Gagnon Home |

Canon Rebel XSi Digital SLR Camera, also known as EOS Kiss X2 and EOS 450D, is a 12.2-megapixel digital single lens reflex camera. It is a part of Canon EOS or Electro-Optical System line of digital SLR cameras. It supersedes the EOS 400D/Digital Rebel XTi and was succeeded by the Canon EOS 500D or the Rebel T1i. It uses Canon Electro-Focus (EF) lenses as well as the short back focus (EF-S) lenses.

It uses a high-resolution, large single plate CMOS sensor that has 12.2 megapixels. Its CMOS sensor offers clear images and great tonal range. It features DIGIC III and uses an APS-C (Advanced Photo System type-C) image sensor format. These features were redesigned to enable the camera to shoot with incredible speed and great image quality.

It features 14-bit Analog to Digital converter. This A/D conversion can generate extremely smooth-toned digital data. It can produce high-quality RAW images as well as JPEG images, which can be processed with Canons Digital Photo Professional software. Another great feature is the Highlight Tone Priority option that allows you to increase exposure up to one stop.

There is also the Auto Lighting Optimizer or Auto Optimization option. It is a Canon image-quality tool that helps you lighten dark areas while maintaining the tonal details of the other parts in bright areas. This Auto Optimization option is available in all shooting modes such as P, Tv, Av and Manual.

This camera is one of the fastest cameras available today. It offers fast and accurate operation with reduced shutter lag time and instant power up time. It has continuous drive of up to 3.5 frames per second. In burst, it can shoot up to 53 JPEG images or 6 RAW files.

Canon Rebel XSi Digital SLR Camera has a large 3.0-inch LCD monitor with 230,000 pixels where you can view camera settings like AF, ISO, Metering, AF Point selection and flash options. With the Live View function you can magnify any part of the scene. The monitor also allows a wide viewing angle of 170 degrees with superior viewing in daylight.

The advanced and adaptable Auto Focus can be used in two ways: Quick mode and Live mode. For shooting in low light, it is ideal to use the Quick mode as it uses the 9-point AF system. Also, it is perfect for capturing action. On the other hand, the Live mode is a contrast-based AF system, which deals with the sharpness of the image.

Canon Rebel XSi digital SLR camera uses SD and SDHC storage devices. In fact, it is the first EOS digital SLR camera to use both memory cards. Its high magnification viewfinder can provide larger overall view as well as increased brightness and clarity. The viewfinder is also equipped with Display-Off sensor to automatically turn off the LCD monitor when you take pictures.

Aside from the above mentioned features, there is also the 35-zone TTL full-aperture as well as the E-TTL II flash metering system. These metering systems help you enhance image exposure. The package also comes with a disc containing helpful Canon software programs. The camera also enables you to use other Canon lenses and accessories.
