Capabilities Of A Multifunction Calibrator

By: Rob Parker Home | Reference-and-Education | Science

Properly calibrated equipment is a necessity for thousands of industries, from mass producers of automobile parts to space age research to restaurants. The different kinds of equipment used to record and set temperatures and other measurements in these businesses can be vast even within a single industry, and all must be checked frequently in order to ensure that top levels of production and safety are being achieved.

In the past, it was necessary to use several different calibration instruments for each piece of equipment in order to determine if it was functioning within acceptable parameters. Today's technology allows just one piece of calibration equipment to take the place of not only several other calibration devices, but also some of the more mundane and less technical aspects of the calibration process. Recording and streamlining of data as well as several other aspects are possible through a multifunction calibrator; let's look at what some of the features can mean in practical terms for your industry.

Multi-measurement capabilities: The primary function of any calibrator is to ensure that equipment is functioning within acceptable parameters. Temperature, voltage, currency, frequency, RTDs and source pulse trains are all measurements that can be taken on just one piece of equipment. With a multifunction calibrator, industry professionals no longer need an instrument to determine if each facet of operation is being measured accurately; all of the measurements can be verified in one calibration check, using one piece of equipment.

Recording and processing of data: This type of calibrator also cuts down on the amount of time lost when transferring and comparing data after measurement. The built in capabilities of the multifunction calibrator allow the user to store the results of more than 50 different instrument checks through memory functions which are guaranteed to preserve the information. Technicians can also print off the results of the checks through the on-board printing capabilities of the calibrator without the hassle of locating and hooking up to a personal computer. Best of all, the calibrator includes a communications port for when it becomes necessary to incorporate the information into another system. Technicians can do so with a minimum of hassle, and without the use of inconvenient software.

The proper calibration of instruments within an industrial workplace can become a mundane and overlooked task simply due to the amount of materials and processes required in monthly maintenance. A multifunction calibrator makes the task easier by recording data in several fields on a single instrument, and then streamlining the recovery process.
