Causes Of Back Pain: Spondylolysthesis

By: Adam Arnette Home | Health-and-Fitness

What is it?

Spondylolisthesis refers to the forward slip of a vertebra over the one beneath. Typical symptoms include low back pain, muscle spasms, thigh or leg pain, and weakness.

How it causes pain:

When one vertebra slips forward over the one beneath, the spinal canal becomes narrower. With less room to function in their natural position, the spinal cord and nerves become irritated and inflamedâ€"which translate into chronic pain symptoms. The slippage of the vertebrate can also cause discs to bulge or even herniate.

Can North American Spine fix it?

While there is no cure for this problem, certain minimally invasive procedures can treat the pain and discomfort associated with this disorder.

How North American Spine treats it:

A very speicalized procedure called the AccuraScope Discectomy and Neural Decompression uses an endoscope to seek out your sources of pain. Specially trained physicians can remove inflamed tissues and unnecessary pain nervesâ€"leaving the spinal cord and nerves to reside in a more comfortable, natural position.

Dr. Rothstein of Dayton, Ohio is the Chief Medical Officer of North American Spine and pioneer of the AccuraScope Procedure for back pain.
