Causes Of Gout

By: Addison adam Home | Health-and-Fitness | Alternative-Medicine

Gout is different from other forms of arthritis because of its rapid development - commonly between twelve and twenty four hours. The onset of gout can last anywhere between three and ten days. Gout can be a recurring problem - once you have had an attack then you are more likely to experience other attacks. If gout is not treated properly then it can cause permanent disfiguration of the affected joint. When gout is left untreated it can also lead to kidney problems and high blood pressure.

Gout can come on very suddenly and can produce severe pain. The pain can last for 3 to 5 days if the gout is not treated. If your gout is not treated when you get it and you let it run its course it will go away on its own only to reappear later lasting longer than the first time it appeared. It can last for longer periods than 5 days and be just as painful.

Gout symptoms and treatment is the wrong way to go about a remedy for gout. If you are a gout victim and just treat your gout symptoms you are highly likely to suffer recurring gout attacks. And frequently occurring attacks can leave you with permanently damaged joints or even kidney problems. So you need a treatment that treats the root cause(s) of gout, not the symptoms of gout, in order to prevent further gout flair-ups. Here, as well as the symptoms of gout, you'll discover the real causes of gout and how to treat the root causes using completely natural means.

It was even believed many years ago that the main cause of gout is money. You see, if you're rich, you can afford to buy loads of food. You must be aware that if gout occurs frequently, it might lead to permanent damage. If your blood has high uric acid content, the acid can harden or crystallize. The hardened uric acid sticks to the joint's spaces.

And uric acid is a byproduct of the metabolism of natural chemical compounds called 'purines'. They exist naturally in our cells and in our foodstuffs. They are instrumental in providing us with our protein and energy. So although uric acid crystals actually cause the symptoms, purines produce the uric acid in the first place.

Other links between sleep apnea and gout include show up in the fact that not only are primary gout sufferers demographically the same as the primary sleep apnea sufferers (middle-aged, overweight men), but sleep apnea and gout are also both much more common among women who have been through menopause. Also, both gout and sleep apnea are associated with people who have a larger neck circumference.

Purines are chemical compounds normally found in our body's cells and in the food we eat. The breakdown of purines into uric acid is an essential function of our bodies because uric acid helps protect the linings of our blood vessels from damage. A problem occurs, however, when the levels of uric acid become abnormally high. The uric acid then crystallizes and gets deposited in the joints, kidneys and other organs, leading to gouty arthritis. While we need purines in our diet, it is therefore important that we keep their levels in check, or else they will become one of the causes of gout.

If you drink sugar-sweetened soft drinks high in fructose it can cause uric acid to build up. A recent research study found that having two drinks a day of a sugar sweetened soft drink increased the risk of developing gout by 85%. (Drinks labelled as 'diet' or drinks containing artificial sweeteners were not found to increase the risk.) Fructose rich fruits and fruit juices may also increase the risk.
