Champix Pills Are An Effective Smoking Cessation Solution

By: Ian Caspar Home | Arts-and-Entertainment

Smoking is highly addictive and a smoker needs plenty of willpower to kick the habit. Read on to know more about Champix- a smoking cessation medication that helps you quit smoking.

What are the risks of smoking?

The health risks associated with smoking have been well documented. Smoking-related diseases include lung cancer, heart disease, COPD/emphysema, and others. Tobacco addiction plays a major role in a number of diseases that cause premature death and disability. Cigarette smoke consists of more than 4000 chemical compounds, some of which are well-known poisons and carcinogens. Some of the most damaging ingredients of cigarettes are nicotine (increases cholesterol levels and is addictive), tar (causes cancer) and carbon monoxide (reduces oxygen levels). The amount of damage caused to a smoker’s body depends on various factors like the number of cigarettes being smoked, whether the cigarettes have filters and how the tobacco present in the cigarettes has been prepared. Smoking kills and its effects are both destructive as well as debilitating.

How Champix works?

Manufactured by Pfizer and approved by the U.K. Food and Drug Administration, Champix is one of the most commonly prescribed anti-smoking pills available today. Based on the active ingredient Varenicline Tartrate, Champix is an advanced therapeutic treatment that has been proved to have a higher success rate in cases where other smoking cessation drugs and methods have failed. This treatment works particularly well for smokers who want to quit smoking for good but haven’t had positive results with alternative treatments.

The addictive nature of nicotine can make it terribly difficult for long term smokers to give up smoking. Champix works by attaching itself to the nicotine receptors in your brain. By doing so, it nullifies the effects of nicotine when you smoke. This makes smoking displeasing and you get no sense of calm that you generally get out of smoking. Champix also reduces nicotine cravings and withdrawal symptoms as your brain is tricked into believing that it is getting its dose of nicotine.

How to take Champix?

Always follow your doctor’s recommendations before taking this medication. A 12 week Champix prescription starts with a dose of 1 white pill (of 0.5mg strength) which is taken everyday during days 1-3. During days 4-7 you can take 2 white pills (of 0.5mg strength) twice a day. For weeks 2-12 you need to take 2 blue pills (of 1mg strength) twice daily.

Champix varenicline should be taken only after meals and with a glass of water. Missed doses need to be taken as soon as possible. However, if your next dose is almost due, you can continue with your regular schedule. If you give in to temptation and smoke a cigarette while taking Champix, don’t despair. You may need a few weeks before experiencing the effects of Champix. Studies have shown that some people are successfully able to quit smoking even if they smoke after their Champix quit date. If you are able to kick the habit within the first few weeks of taking Champix, you should continue with the treatment for permanent results.

Side effects of Champix

Champix is an effective smoking cessation pill, but like other medications, it can produce adverse reactions which include nausea and vomiting, stomach pain, constipation, fatigue or weakness, headache, increased appetite, insomnia and unpleasant taste in the mouth. Some people also experience behavioral changes such as agitation, hostility, depression, suicidal thoughts and mood swings after taking Champix. These symptoms might occur as soon as you start the medication or after several weeks of Champix treatment or even after the treatment has ended. If you experience any of these or other unexplained symptoms, contact your doctor immediately. If you have a history of mental health conditions or depression, talk to your doctor before taking Champix.

Availability of Champix

Champix varenicline is a prescription smoking cessation drug and is available at most pharmacies. You can also buy it at online clinics and pharmacies, where a panel of registered doctors will give you a prescription based on your symptoms. Make sure you buy it from a licensed pharmacy that sells the genuine product if you are buying Champix online.
