Chicago Snoring Relief

By: Ray James Home | Health-and-Fitness

What is snoring?

Snoring is caused by many different factors. Sometimes there is a structural problem in the airway, mouth, or jaw that can only be helped through surgery. If that is the case then speaking with a doctor at a Chicago sleep clinic may be the answer.

Other options include aromatherapy, where an individual inhales essential oils before and during sleeping. Components of the essential oils come in direct contact with the the epiglottis, the pharynx, the nasal cavity, trachea and into the lungs. These components also enter the blood stream via the capillaries (tiny blood vessels) in the alveoli.

Naturopathic products often help some people. These are not usually completely effective and often take considerable time and energy to make them work. Some people have found success with eucalyptus leaves on the pillow, or oblas oil. Others infuse essential oils into a bowl of steaming water, place a towel over their head, and breathe deeply from the bowl.

Sometimes weight and fitness need some fine tuning for snoring to be silenced. Overweight people are more prone to suffer from the problem of snoring. This is because they have many fatty tissues in the neck which narrow the airway, leading to vibration of the soft tissues, or causing snoring. Loosing weight will help you to breathe properly by reducing the fatty tissue of the neck. In general, fitness and diet should be improved to help with snoring, avoiding dairy and fatty foods.

Oftentimes all that is involved to make a difference in snoring is adjustments to lifestyle factors. For those who are habitual and regular smokers and drinkers and are suffering from snoring, those individuals should put an end to their smoking and drinking habit. Smoking and drinking causes blockage in the nasal passage which blocks the airflow. Due to which the individual falls prey to snoring. Passive smoking may also lead to snoring. Individuals who are overweight should try reducing their weight. Excess fatty tissues also is one of the major causes of snoring. When throat muscles relax during sleep, these fats slide backward and obstruct the airflow which leads to snoring. Junk food or excessive calories also causes increased amount of fats in the body, which leads to snoring. So much as possible, it's best to avoid certain food, including high-fat dairy products before going to bed. If there is lack of attention to nutrition it will lead to the accumulation of excess fat around the throat which leads to snoring. Sleep position is a good way to help. One way which will help you is raising the height of your bed. By raising the height of the bed the nasal passage is not obstructed and one can sleep peacefully. Also, avoiding sleeping on the back is important. The individual should sleep on their side.
