Chicagoland Chevy Dealership Says The Winter Winds Will Be No Match For The Coming Chevy Volt

By: Robert Polzin Home | Automotive | Cars

Don’t give a thought to the bitter winds along Lake Michigan if you are considering buying a Chevrolet Volt. General Motors recently sent a test fleet of the 2011 Volt to a remote area of Canada 500 miles north of Toronto. Your Chicagoland Chevy dealership is confident the new Volt will be able to thrive in Chicago winters.
But General Motors has also tested for the other extreme †severe heat. Several months ago test vehicles were sent to Death Valley and its 100-plus degree climate. Want more assurances? The Volt was also driven through the mountains of Tennessee. GM is determined to work out any problems in preproduction with its first mass-market extended-range electric car.
Just how will the Volt fare in the Midwest? Well, it survived the desert, so it must be tough. It survived the mountains so it must have endurance and control. When it survives the frozen tundra I suppose we can call it resilient. One Elmhurst used car dealer just wants customers to call it their own.
In addition to running the car through varying temperatures and terrains, GM says testers spend hours â€opening and closing all hinges, including doors, trunk, glove box and interior consoles.†In monitoring the engine and generator as well as the lithium battery pack, testers will be looking for any glitch that might be a safety issue or a turn-off to the customer.
With its expected fuel â€saving capacity, Volt should compete well in the Midwest, especially in metro areas, where gas prices are often far above those of our southern or rural neighbors. Will the Volt provide a way back for GM? We’ll have to wait and see, but it certainly sounds like a contender.
One challenge all hybrid and electric car producers face is the limit of space within the usually-small vehicles and what some customers might see as an inconvenience in having to constantly find a place to charge the battery to get that fuel savings. As manufacturers increase the drive range of this class of vehicles, they will become much more attractive to the haulers of kids, business commuters and those who just don’t want to have one more thing to worry about.
Chicagoland Chevy dealerships are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the 2011 Volt to showrooms and hope that customer excitement will build with all the teasers being put out. If the Chevy Volt’s extended drive range is comparable to that of other brands, there are a lot of loyal Chevy drivers out there who will consider this as an option.
When shopping Elmhurst used car dealers, remember to check out the current Chevy models on the lot. Area Chevrolet dealers are stepping up to prove that the quality and familiarity of the Chevy has not changed and they are making every attempt to retain customer loyalty and keep the name of Chevy synonymous with â€Americanâ€.
