Cholesterol: Silent Killer

By: Brayan stewert Home | Health-and-Fitness | Meditation

Heart Attack: The word is enough to send scare the daylights out of anyone in the world. It spells doom for anyone who wants to enjoy life. It shuts down all the hopes of a normal life. A person with a heart disease may look normal on the outside but is a wreck inside. A heart patient and his family are constantly threatened by heart problems.
They are forever besieged with doubts of a safe future. A heart patient cannot indulge in normal activities like running and other sports. All of us want to forget all health problems and dig into those creamy pastries and delicious pizzas which scream from the billboards eat me". We scoff at warnings that our conscience gives us. Our cholesterol and triglycerides levels shoot up.

These silent killers do not give any indications of their presence to the human body. There is no fever, no headache, nothing. Yet, internally, they pile into the arteries and constrict the blood flow.

Ultimately, the inevitable happens... a heart attack. One wonders if there is any way we could have our cake and eat it too. Lipitor is the new drug which seems to be the answer to all our problems. Lipitor are statins drugs which reduce the blood cholesterol and increase the HDL cholesterol and modestly decrease the triglyceride levels. Statins like lipitor and lescol give a new lease of life to individuals with heart problems. However, a word of warning, these statins have serious side effects like a muscle wasting disease called rhabdomyolysis. These statins also can cause myositis, a disease in which the body's immune system chronically inflames the muscle tissue and weakens it.

So it's up to you. Statins do help in lowering cholesterol but they come with a handful of problems to combat with. Instead a lifestyle change may just be what your heart requires.
