Choose Water Heaters That Work For You

By: kyle ritchie Home | Home-and-Family

The traditional water heaters heat water in a storage tank that comes along with it. Natural gas is the most common source of energy for the traditional water heaters, but propane and electric heaters are also available. The new trend is the tank less water heater, where instead of storing water in a separate tank, water is routed to where it is needed. They are energy efficient, which means that you save on energy costs and at the same time contribute to the noble cause of reducing damage to the environment.

If you are thinking of buying a new water heater or replacing the old one, the first thing you need to decide is whether you prefer an electric or a gas model. The electric model is slightly more expensive than the gas model to operate. If you are looking for a replacement, it will be a good idea to look for what type you currently have and then make your decision based on that. If you do not have a gas outlet in your house, the electric water heater is best for you.

If you decide to opt for an electric heater, you will need to decide on which brand to pick because there are hundreds available in the market. Some of the brands may be well established while others may be relatively lesser known. It is up to you to make the best of the money you spend by choosing the water heater that is ideal for your needs.

One of the most common problems that are faced by homeowners is the corrosion that appears in water heaters. Over a period of time, rust gets deposited on the inside of the water heater tank. A tell tale sign of rust deposits is when you have to turn up the heat to get hot water. The traditional water heater with its storage tank cannot avoid this problem, but the new technology of tank less water heaters effectively eliminates this issue.

Many companies offer to custom fit the water heaters according to your specific needs. It may be worthwhile checking a few websites online to check out the different types of water heaters on offer and compare the prices.

Consider these three important factors when you choose a water heater
'the rate of energy consumption
'how much hot water is consumed on a daily basis
'how many outlets will be open at the same time
The more the number of outlets that are open at the same time, the more will be the power consumption. Gas water heaters are cheaper especially if you need to heat large amounts of water. Besides, you do not have to worry about power outages with a gas water heater. But the installation costs are typically higher for a gas water heater than an electric one.

Choose the best water heater that addresses your needs perfectly and make it a point to maintain it regularly and it will serve you for many years to come.
