Choosing Power Inverters

By: Harry Watson Home | Shopping-and-Products

A power inverter is an electrical device which can be used to convert direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC). This device can be used around the house to invert the current of household or office appliances or even to provide solar panels and batteries with power. These devices are not just useful around the house but can also have their uses in other locations as well since they are portable.

There are two types of power inverters, the external DC/AC inverter and the DC/DC converter. The first type of inverter converts DC power to AC current. The DC current usually comes from a power source such as solar panels or battery cells. The electricity can be of any voltage. Most of today's power inverters and converters come with some standard features. When shopping for a power inverter, make sure that the one you choose have at least a few of the following features to ensure that you purchase a high quality and functioning product.

The power inverter you choose should have a few of these features:

* A Power ON-OFF switch

* Built in cooling fan preferably with an ON-OFF control or a fan-less cooling design

* 12V or 24V DC input and it would be best if it could handle a high efficiency of 88-90% or higher

* An input voltage range of -15 to +255

* An output voltage regulation of 10%

* True sine wave output

* Over current or over load protection

* Low battery alarm and shut down

* Approval by regulatory bodies such as the CE marking or e13

These are just a few of the features that you can look for when shopping around for a power inverter. Since there are many models and makes out in the market, you should select one that meets your needs and a product that maintains high standards. If you are not very sure of what type of inverter you require make sure that the manufacturers or retailers are able to provide you with the information that you require. Make certain that the retailer has a wide range of products from which you can choose the best. Choosing a power inverter for whatever function is an important choice so you need to make sure you can trust the retailer from whom you buy the product.
