Choosing The Right Air Tools And Air Compressors

By: Graham Baylis Home | Home-and-Family

Air tools can be useful for a wide range of jobs. As well as being commonly used in industrial processes, such as manufacturing and construction, they can also be useful on a smaller scale, such as in workshops or even domestic settings. This means that there is a wide range of air tools available and so it is important to get the right one for the job at hand, as using the wrong one could have a significant impact on the success of your project.

Read on to find out more about choosing the right air tools and compressors.

Size of the job

One of the key things you need to think about when choosing air tools is how big the job actually is. This matters because you can find air compressors and other tools in many different sizes, from small handheld devices up to large machines suitable for use in factories.

This means you need to assess whether a portable air compressor or other device would be best suited to your job, or whether you need something on a larger scale. For instance, for domestic use you will most commonly need to use relatively small, handheld devices. However if you are working in an industrial setting, you are highly likely to require something with more power that can handle a greater workload on a regular basis.

Type of job

The type of job you are carrying out is also very important. Air compressors can be used for a wide range of applications, such as for medical purposes as well as in the construction industry. This means they are often built to particular specifications and so you should always make sure the tool you have chosen is suitable for the type of job you're carrying out.

For instance, if you are working with sheet metal then air riveters might be what you're looking for. Air riveters make it easier to attach rivets to pre-drilled holes in sheet metal, which then hold the metal in place. Doing this by hand can be tiring, but using an air riveter with air compressor technology takes a lot of the strain out of the work. Air riveters also have a very specific purpose, so it's important you make sure they're suited to your job.

Level of compression

Also, different air tools have different levels of power, so it's important you assess the level of compression you are likely to need. For instance, in a domestic setting it is unlikely that you would need an air compressor with a huge amount of power because the scale of the job is likely to be much smaller. However, for large projects carried out in factories and elsewhere, a machine with more power might be useful.

The level of compression you need is also likely to depend on what materials you're working with, as some substances are stronger than others. A thorough assessment of the project at hand, plus advice from experts if you need it, should help to make sure you choose the right air tools and compressors.
