Classification Of Web Hosting Terms

By: PADMINI Home | Internet-and-Business | Web-Hosting

The internet is constantly expanding, growing and changing like an organic creature. There are now trillions of pages online, and this makes it hard for aspiring webmasters to choose a decent hosting plan for their website. Some of the terms you may be ogling in your search may include: co-location hosting, VPS, shared hosting, reseller hosting, linux hosting, PHP web hosting, template hosting, managed hosting, FrontPage hosting, eCommerce hosting, dedicated servers, budget hosting, shared servers, ASP hosting, and cheap web hosting. Where you even begin to sift through the information?

All of these terms are used to represent the different types of web hosting available to you. All of these terms are able to be classified based on various factors, such as OS, webs servers, programming language, and overall cost.

To start with, let's look at the cost. Various web hosting plans can be termed cheap hosting, budget hosting, and affordable hosting. This is one of the first things anyone looking to set up a website will look at. Often the services can be contracted for as little as $5 a month.

Programming language. Most websites use either HTML or xHTML as the main programming language, but if you are really looking to make your website stand out and look flashy, you may want to add flash, javascript, or PHP, to name a few. These will give you better graphics and a better overall design.

The OS- After you know what programming language you want to use on your website, you can still pick the operating system. Most programming languages are compatible with the main operating systems, such as Windows, Linux, and Unix.

Now for the last part, the servers. There are a great many options out there for servers, from dedicated servers to shared hosting to VPS, or virtual private server. Which one you choose will depend on how much bandwidth and storage space you need.
