There are a number of common cosmetic plastic surgery procedures. Cosmetic surgery differs from reconstructive plastic surgery in that it is concerned with aesthetics, for the most part, and not functionality. People who partake in cosmetic surgery are more likely looking to enhance or improve a facet of their physical appearance. Mole or Blemish Removal Some of the most common cosmetic plastic surgery procedures involve the skin. Many people use cosmetic surgery techniques to remove moles or blemishes that are benign and non-cancerous. While it is best to consult a physician before having a mole removed, the procedure to remove it is typically harmless and simple. The most frequent methods of removal include removing the mole by shave excision or cutting out the whole mole and stitching the area closed. This is done with a local anaesthetic and the procedure rarely leaves a scar or mark. Botox Botox is becoming increasingly popular. The compound itself is a purified protein produced by clostridium botulinum bacteria. It has been used for wrinkle therapy since the early 1990s and no major side effects have ever been reported. The procedure usually involves a small amount of the bacteria being injected right into the muscles that create wrinkles or so-called objectionable facial muscle effects. The results of the treatment last for months, so repeat visits are relatively common. The toxins in the bacteria deactivate the muscles from working, thus eliminating the undesirable effects of wrinkling or unnecessary smiling. Breast Augmentation One of the most popular cosmetic plastic surgery procedures is breast augmentation. As breasts can lose volume and can change shape after weight loss, childbirth, or through the aging process, breast augmentation can help enhance the size of the breast and provide a more balanced figure. Breast augmentation often includes the use of breast implants or breast lifts. Breast implants are most often placed under the chest muscle or between it and the breast tissue. There are advantages and disadvantages to each placement and a plastic surgeon will discuss the options thoroughly with the patient. Reasons for Plastic Surgery There are many different reasons that men and women choose to have cosmetic plastic surgery. Some have procedures that will help them gain confidence, while others simply want to enhance their looks for their own private reasons. Regardless of the reasons for plastic surgery, it is important to utilize the services of an accredited, licensed medical practitioner.
