Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture In infertile men, acupuncture can be used to improve general circulation which can, in turn, enhance the mobility of sperm. Female infertility is sometimes caused by a hormonal disorder, and acupuncture can be used to increase the body's production of fertility-boosting hormones and to regulate the fertility cycle. Points targeted to treat infertility in either gender are Spleen 6 and Liver 3. Kidney 7 is added to the male's routine, and Spleen 9 is added to the female's routine. Chinese Herbal Therapy Herbs often prescribed in the treatment of female infertility include cnidium (a 3-gram capsule or decoction, 3 times a day) and leonurus (5- to 7.5-gram decoction 2 times a day) Additional herbs used to treat male and female infertility are horny goat weed, cordyceps, schisandra, and Chinese raspberry. The patent medicine Dang Gui Four Combination is another common remedy. Once again, if desired results are not achieved, a better diagnosis of the individual's true imbalance is necessary.
