Contemporary Vs Vintage Patio Furniture

By: Lydia Graham Home | Home-and-Family | Home-Improvement

People who are choosing their first or even replacement patio furniture sometimes have a hard time choosing between vintage or contemporary alternatives. Picking a whole style or even just a piece or two can be overwhelming when you see all the choices out there in the marketplace. Sometimes its taking people as much time and attention when they’re picking out a patio set as they spend redecorating a whole room in their homes.

Look inside your home as your first task to get you oriented to your style of decorating. Seeing the styles you’re living with today gets the mood set in your mind. If you’re thinking about an opposite approach to decorating the outside, consider a free, whimsical and fun approach for outside if your home is very traditional inside. You can also bring theme from your indoor space outside to continue your mood out there. Whichever approach you take, your choices can live within your budget.

When considering what to do with your outdoor space your decks and yards can be thought of in terms of being complete rooms to be decorated. Poolside and balcony areas often can be flattered with contemporary patio furniture. Small bistro sets made with wrought iron can make garden areas look perfect with this vintage patio furniture and mixing the contemporary and vintage styles for decks and patios works great as does choosing one or the other.

Modern materials, even resin, can be used to make replicas for some amazing vintage patio furniture looks. Amazing results come from mixing and blending the old and the new. Wrought iron or woven rattan are found in some of the oldest vintage pieces for patios. Resin replicas that are much easier to care for can also be found. New, trendier pieces will usually date themselves, while choosing vintage patio furniture can be a big advantage. They can look classic for many years to come and provide a great long term investment.

There are hundreds of varieties of contemporary patio furniture available though as its becoming very popular. Being made of extremely durable and long lasting materials like resin or aluminum contemporary patio furniture is also easier to store in the off season and take care of. If you’re just following the design magazines make sure you love your choice because a drawback of choosing contemporary styles are that they might change next year and become dated, otherwise you’ll need a subscription to those magazines, auto-renewing even, so you can stay in style.

When choosing to upgrade your patio furniture, a contemporary or vintage look can also be gotten by looking at your patterns, colors and textures for your cushions. That is an area where updating those might be easier than replacing the entire patio set and provide more longer term flexibility in making updates and smaller changes every season. This level of variability will make your friends and guests feel like they are stepping into a new patio each season and wonder how you can afford to change out your patio furniture every year!
