Control Foot Odor - Not It Control You

By: Ryan Parker Home | Health-and-Fitness

Of all the terrible things to be afflicted by are smelly feet. It isnt dangerous enough that it will get you sick but its not annoying enough that you will actively take a pro-active stance against it. Most people just live with it and just try to be happy being called the smelly one in the group. Luckily the problem isnt a hard one to solve, you just need to follow the necessary steps and be keenly aware of what causes it and how to avoid it.

The most straight forward way to deal with smelly feet is the same way that you deal with other body odor problems. Simply use deodorants or anti-perspirants on your feet, shoes or even socks. We recommend that you use the products that are available off the shelf from pharmacists and supermarkets first as these are slightly milder products. These will generally work for about 90% of the people out there with smelly feet. The other 10% can go to their local doctor and get a prescription for clinical strength deodorants and anti-perspirants which are almost guaranteed to cover up any odors that your feet can produce.

Most of the time people will not have smelly feet if they dont wear shoes or slippers. It is only when they start to wear footwear that the smells start coming. It is then reasonable to say that if your feet arent sweating that it is almost impossible for smells to start. If you have feet that are particularly susceptible to sweating then you should wear footwear that is highly breathable.

In addition to the design of footwear, you should also be sensitive to the materials that your footwear is made of. Some cheaper plastics that some sandals and slippers are made off are made to feel like suede or leather but are actually terrible for people who suffer from foot odor. Sometimes the rubbers used for the manufacture of cheap footwear also arent treated against bacteria and end up reacting with it creating another sort of funky odor. We recommend those with foot odor problems stick to higher quality shoes made from treated leather.

You should also be weary of the socks that you wear also play an important part in making your feet smell. Most cheap synthetic socks are made of the same thing that cheap plastic snickers are made off and thus promote bad smells. People with smelly feet should only be buying socks that are made of 100% cotton. These socks breathe very well and are made of natural cotton which can absorb a lot of sweat.

One new medical procedure that recently hit the market is called Iontophoresis. It is basically a method of de-activating some of your sweat cells in your pores for a short time (a few weeks). You feet are basically put in a normal trey of salted water and a very small current is passed through your feet. All you will feel is a strange tingling affect. The treatment generally takes about 15 minutes and is good for de-activating your sweat glands for good few weeks. It is cheap and also very effective so we recommend that those with excessively sweaty feet consider this as a treatment option.

If you are looking for an all natural way of taking care of the problem without changing your footwear or subjecting your body to external treatments then you can also start with your own body. Half of the time the reason for access sweating on your feet or even your entire body is an imbalance in your sympathetic nervous system. The only thing that you can do to fix this is to fix your diet with more raw green vegetables to balance things out.

An imbalance in the types of food that you eat will also cause excessive sweating and also help in the breeding of bacteria and fungus. A good example of this is a diet with too much simple sugars and carbohydrates. This will make sweat that is filled with small amounts of sugar and is some of the best food for bacteria to consumer. This will cause blooming colonies of bacteria and fungus on your skin and lead to terrible smells. You should always aim for a balanced diet or even a diet with reduced sugars to combat the growth of bacteria and fungus.

Those looking for a inner balance for curing smelly feet should also know how the body uses organs to cleanse itself. The skin is also an organ and can be used as a cleansing tool much like the liver, spleen and kidneys. Toxins can pass through the skin in the form of sweat and deposit on the skin if your liver, spleen or kidneys arent functioning at their best. You have to exercise regularly and eat at least 6 small meals a day to bring your metabolism up. It is only through those means that your cleansing organs will work better and not have to rely on your skin to cleanse your body. If you skin isnt involved then your sweat will not contain enough toxins to be digested by bacteria and thus bacteria wont grow and you wont have smells.
