By: jackson daren Home | Health-and-Fitness | Diseases-and-Conditions

The infants get several kinds of rashes and diseases that sometimes become unexplainable even to the doctors. When Kacey Rose was examined by a pediatrician, the doctor said that some sort of blood check is pending to identify white and red blood cells. At that time, no one was alarmed. Around after 6 days, the blood report of Kacey came in. It was leukemia and all the joy or excitement of a new born went in vein. It is true that there are very few people who know about the cord blood preservation. There are different forms of leukemia and it is quite hard to identify them during the childhood. As per Kacey’s mother, she was the aggressive one.

Thereafter, Kacey was moved to a new hospital where doctors started snooping bone marrow with long needles, radiation and chemotherapy. The hair of Kacey fell down in short span of time. The immune system got shot, she was in complete isolation. The parents needed to protect Kacey even from the minute infections like cold or cough. They also approached NBMF, National Bone Marrow Foundation where around 10.4 million samples were available but no one matched with Kacey’s. After fighting for five months with the most aggressive form of leukemia, Kacey died on May 5, 2008. The cord blood transplant could not be done on Kacey’s weak immune system.

Therefore, Kacey’s parents had made a little mistake of not favoring the idea of cord blood preservation. It is true that this new and amazing technique may protect one from different kinds of blood and neuro disorders. If Kacey’s parents were aware of that, they could have saved the life of Kacey. The readers can remember this mistake and everyone should donate cord blood, at least the parents who can afford. There are several genetic disorders that can also be treated with this technique. The cord blood is full of stem cells which are responsible for the production of other healthy blood cells.

There are both private and public cord blood banks. One can choose any one depending upon the choice and preference. In case, if a donor needs a cord blood in future, the donated cord blood can be used for the treatment. One can donate cord blood to both private and public banks. It is true that most people are not aware about the cord blood transplant which is really a drawback. Everyone must be aware of this pitfall in order to prevent further inconvenience. As per researchers, the patients who suffer from thalassemia can be easily treated via stem cell transplant.
