Reconstructive surgery is used to reconstruct a person's appearance that may have been damaged by injury or disease, it may also be necessary in some cases; whereas cosmetic surgery or beauty surgery is done to improve or restore the appearance. Cosmetic plastic surgery is a serious affair as you will have to live with the body you are changing. It needs to be thought over carefully, be sure of what exactly you want and discuss every angle with the plastic surgeon. It would also help if one views 'before and after' pics of people who have got similar surgeries done, so that you have a clear picture of what you are in for. The surgery is done usually under general anaesthesia and the person can be sent home the next day. The pros and cons of the surgery should be well understood before it is performed, a good research on the best doctors, costs involved and techniques used in the procedure can be very beneficial.
