A keypad is a set of buttons that are arranged in a block that usually has numbers and other symbols on the buttons. Keypads usually are made from plastic; however, in the last few years consumers are seeing many keypads that are made from rubber silicone. Today keypads can be customized using rubber silicone. Custom silicone keypads are keypads made of rubber silicone that can be customized to fit the needs of the customer. Custom silicone keypads have been around for quite awhile; however, in the last 10 years the demand for custom silicone keypads has grown greatly. Today custom silicone keypads are being used in many products that at one time were only made with plastic or metal such as remote controls for televisions, stereos, dvd players and anything else that might use a remote control. Custom silicone keypads are customized to meet the consumer’s needs. Pigments can be added to natural silicone rubber to form various colors that can be used to make a vibrantly colorful keypad. The contact resistance of the custom silicone keypad can also be customized based on the customers needs. A regular keypad works by using a mechanical switch that is triggered when a key is stroked. The consumer may be worried a custom silicone keypad may not work as well as a traditional keypad; however, custom silicone keypads are made using something called a pill that acts as a switch contact. The resistance of the pill can be changed making the custom silicone keypad just as reliable as a regular keypad. Custom silicone keypads use a few different kinds of pills; however, the carbon pill is the most reliable and lasts the longest. Custom silicone keypads are the way of the future for the keypad. Custom silicone keypads are a low cost solution for consumers and industrial electronic companies. Custom silicone keypads are light weight and feel nice to the touch. Instead of the hard feel of plastic or metal on the fingers one feels the soft touch of rubber silicone. Custom silicone keypads are also nice because they are much more water resistant than their plastic counterparts. Another wonderful thing about custom silicone keypads is that the consumer can design his own customized keypad and have it built just for him.
