Design Show Features Off The Hook Bed Options

By: Daniel Marcus Manson Home | Home-and-Family | Home-Improvement

I came away from the 2008 edition of the 100% design show in London literally brimming with ideas. If you’ve never been, let me be the first to say that you are missing out on something extraordinary. With hundreds of exhibitors from dozens of countries, it’s really one of the most exciting events of the year for designers sniffing out new trends and culture vultures in general. I picked up on Stephen Johnson’s â€Now Isn’t That Lovely†series, for one. Brighton’s own resident Swedish lighting designer Ulrika Jarl displayed a fetching collection in bone china, featuring colours and patterns inspired by nature.

Any fans of stone would have been impressed by the new line from ArmourCast, featuring exquisitely realistic architectural castings with the look and feel of stone. Better yet, they’re made of 60% recycled content (apparently waste material from the tile industry). No worries about Sienna Miller knocking on your door and calling you out for killing the Earth if your home is loaded up with these!

What made a big impression on me, though, was the number of Leather Beds. I came across. I swear that only a few years ago, these things were as rare as hen’s teeth. But I came across at least four or five designers who were displaying variations on these and I have to tell you, I’m sold. As a matter of fact, I was by one booth (that shall remain nameless lest I be accused of shilling for them) so many times, that they finally sold me their display model- I’m not above saving a few pounds where I can. I was so excited about having it; I couldn’t wait to arrange for delivery and ended up having the poor rep help me wedge the whole thing into my Chelsea tractor. If you’re worried about PETA, faux leather is also available.
