Diabetic Foot Ulcer Treatment

By: Arnold Davies Home | Health-and-Fitness

If you are diabetic then you probably know that the best diabetic foot ulcer treatment is prevention. You need to take special care of your feet because they can be affected by poor circulation without you even noticing.

Once developed, the most drastic diabetic foot ulcer treatment is amputation. Nobody wants that and there are plenty of ways of preventing it from happening. Here are a few tips.

So you are a diabetic and you have developed a foot ulcer. What is going to happen? What will your health care professional do to help you?

The goal of treatment is to prevent worsening of the ulcer and eliminate the potential for amputation. The plan is usually to treat the ulcer in its early stages, allow prompt healing of the ulcer and to prevent it from recurring in the future once it has healed. This is why it is so important to inform your health care provider right away if you notice any wound on your foot.

If you have developed a foot ulcer, it is essential that you take the best possible care of it, as if it is improperly treated, it can cause complications such as gangrene, and in some cases may result in the amputation of part or all of the foot. The two biggest concerns with foot ulcers in diabetics are keeping it clean and removing dead tissue. The doctor may have to help you in removing the dead tissue, but you will be able to clean it properly from home.

If it is already too late for preventative measures and a foot ulcer has appeared, it is imperative to properly care for the infection. In most cases, a foot ulcer will not be able to be properly cared for at home. While visiting a doctor may be inconvenient, it important that an ulcer is not allowed to worsen to the point where amputation is necessary.

The insole is very comfortable and requires little or no maintenance. Constructed of Poron and Recoil it does not absorb wound exudate and is easily washed to prevent the growth of new bacteria. These materials create a safe environment for the simultaneous use of would care dressings and technologies to increase the chances of healing.

The nervous system is also damaged by diabetes and high blood sugar over time. This means that the nervous system isn't responsive to things that happen to the body or that it doesn't communicate to the rest of the body if something is happening. Thus diabetics may find that their feet sometimes become numb. As they learn to live with this they will often miss cuts and bruises on their feet because they don't feel them. When these bruises are left untreated they can get worse or become infected. This can lead to more problems.

The researchers were pleased with the results, although they were a bit concerned because tretinoin irritates and they thought that the patients would become so irritated that they wouldn't be able to continue the research. However, this situation didn't seem to be a problem in most cases, as they explained.

Your podiatrist will advise you to see them on a regular basis. In between visits you should follow his advice about footwear, foot inspection and general foot care. Minor injuries can be treated by you at home, but don't hesitate to get professional help if the injury does not heal quickly. If you develop a foot ulcer, no doubt tests will need to be carried out to establish the cause.
