Diabetic Loses Doctor, Finds Health With Science-tested Natural Remedy

By: Robert Tracy Home | Health-and-Fitness | High-Blood-Pressure

In 2005, our friend was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. He was shocking to hear, at the age of 59, that his life would never be the same again.

Through the blur of his physician's words, several things stuck in his mind.

If he didn't take control, he could become blind, lose an arm, a leg or both. Suffer from the painful needle-like jabs of neuropathy, suffer from problems with his intimate relationship with his wife, and be at a higher risk of cancer, respiratory and heart problems.

He also heard his doctor's suggested remedy - to diet, exercise and lose weight. As bad as it was to hear that he was Type 2, it was worse for him to hear that, according to his old friend and doctor, 'there is no cure". And that the doctor will just treat the symptoms. That was it for his friend the doctor.

How Things Change
When he first walked into his doctor's office he saw himself as a healthy, energetic, slightly overweight middle-aged man.

After hearing that he had a disease without a cure, he walked out feeling like a semi-blind, one-legged geezer waiting for a heart seizure to kick in.

Right or wrong, he didn't like his old friend the doctor anymore. This old friend had made him feel hopeless.

But one thing stood out in his mind. The doctor had told him that losing weight was the key to lowering his blood sugar level.

A New Solution
Well, the decision was made, it was to lose the doctor and find his own way and a solution to this horrible disease.

After talking with other diabetes experts, researching this disease on the Internet and talking to a lot of natural solutions providers, he zeroed in on a key issue the fit his profile.

One Natural Supplement That Might Help
Our old friend read that Chromium is drained from our systems by food and beverages that contain high fructose corn syrup. This one ingredient, known as HFCS, has the effect of stealing chromium from our bodies.

Why is this so important? Because chromium helps to regulate blood sugar levels. Without it, our body gets thrown out of whack.

The dietitian's will tell you look at your own particular diet and search for any products that you might be eating and/or drinking that contained HFCS.

By carefully writing down everything that he ate over two weeks, bang there was a possibility. Sure enough there was a 6 Coke a day habit that came back to haunt him. Most regular soft drinks have a high level of HFCS. Not only that but the high calories in these drinks, along with the chromium robbing HFCS was probably the key culprit in his having Type 2 diabetes and being overweight. (The dietitian also warned about high HFCS in juice drinks!)

Time to Take Action
At this point, he stopped the daily Coke habit and looked for a way to replace the lost chromium.

It did not take long to find that are many different kinds of chromium supplementation in the Supermarkets and health food stores. Some are effective. Some are safe. Others can be dangerous.

After reading many clinical studies, it was clear that a particular kind of chromium was best suited for diabetics. It is a special "niacin-bound" chromium. The reason it's the best form is because the molecular structure makes it very easily absorbed into your system. The typical person will absorb 3 to 9 times more chromium with this niacin-bound chromium formula than with the typical "calcium-bound" formulas. The higher the absorption, the more effective it is in replacing lost chromium. Many doctors also suggest chromium, so this is one of many ideas, but a good one to look at.

So the best conclusion was to choose this particular form. It has also been found to be safe for use in the short and long run.

A Success Story
Within 9 months of using this niacin-bound chromium based supplement, our old friend had lost 33 pounds and lowered his blood sugar level.
:
As much as everyone hates to hear bad news from their doctor, still listen closely.

For diabetics the age-old advice of diet, exercise and weight loss is critical. And for our friend, losing the 6 Cokes a day habit really helped. His hard work to look at his own situation found the right combination of using chromium ("niacin-bound"), and found that natural supplements helped him gain control over blood sugar levels and this terrible disease.
