Considering adult braces to get the straight teeth you have always wanted? It will please you to know that there are now many choices of braces to select from. Depending on your individual needs, your lifestyle and your preference, you can choose one that you think will best fit you. What are these adult braces anyway, and how do I know which one is best?

The traditional metal braces. Metal braces are the most common type of braces and are widely available. They are also the least expensive of all kinds of braces. As is suggested by its name, these braces are made out of high grade stainless steel that is attached in front of the teeth. They now come in different colors to suit individual preference. One of the main benefits of traditional metal braces is that they hardly ever break, which translates to fewer visits to your orthodontist. They also do not stain. Metal braces today are generally smaller, more attractive and relatively more comfortable.

Clear ceramic braces. These braces are also worn over the teeth just as in traditional metal braces. However, they are not as conspicuous as they usually blend with the color of your teeth making them less noticeable. They also do not stain, though the elastic ties attached to the wire do. They generally look better since they are not conspicuous. Ceramic braces are slightly more expensive and a little brittle, so they do have the tendency to break or chip off.

Lingual braces. Lingual braces are those that are attached behind the teeth. They can be a little more expensive since this system is more difficult to attach than front braces. It also takes They are more complicated to attach and it takes more time. Though they are concealed, they have the tendency to interfere with talking and are less comfortable.

Invisible braces. Another technology in adult braces is those invisible types. These are made up of a series of clean and customized brace system called aligners. They are less noticeable and are usually removable so you don't have to worry about food and plaque being trapped in between your metal braces. This type of adult braces, however, are only an option to those with less serious, or rather mild teeth problems.

Which one is best?
Choosing from the kinds of braces available is a matter of personal choice. Each option has its set of pros and cons, so you have to determine what priorities you have. If you would like to go for the cheapest yet effective solution, a traditional metal pair of adult brackets may be advisable. On the other hand, if you are more concerned hiding them from people, you can go for the ceramic system, but you need to be very careful not to chip it off. Of course, it is always best to ask your orthodontist as to which type is most ideal for you. Consult an orthodontic specialist and get a complete examiation to determine you needs.
