Directory Submissions Can Still Improve Your Seo

By: JD Hoopes Home | Internet-and-Business

Properly promoting your business online demands a good understanding of how search engines work and how to optimize your online presence for maximum search engine exposure. One of the key elements of search engine optimization is generating links to your website. This is conventionally accomplished through link exchanges, article writing, social marketing, and directory submissions. Directory submissions have lost a great deal of interest over the past few years as directories become less and less important online and because of increase difficulty associated with the abusive submissions by webmasters, but directory submissions remain a relatively inexpensive way to generate links back to your website.

A Web direcotry is a website that categories links to various websites into the most relevant categories making it easier for people to find relevant sites on a specific subject. They have lost nearly all of their value in recent years as search engines have become so sophisticated and made finding relevant sites faster and more convenient, but the large directories of the past have a long history and carry a lot of weight because of their use in the early days of the internet. Much like the phone book or yellow pages that arrives on your doorstep, which it's value is limited in the modern age, they still have their place in your home and if it did not cost anything to have your business listed in the yellow pages, would there be any reason not to do it. Directory submissions is the process of submitting your site to the literally thousands of different directories out there in the hope that your site will be accepted by the directory and they post a link back to your site.

Directory submissions can be done manually by going from directory to directory and inputting your site information or they can be automated (or semi-automated) with the use of simple software programs. While manual submissions will give you the greatest value per submission, automated software can often give you the greatest value for your time, and the right method for you usually depends on which your have more of. If you have unlimited amount of time and relatively few SEO tools to work with, then manual submissions will probably offer the most value for the least amout of money, but if you have little time and employ many different SEO methods, then aoutomated or semi-automated software is probably a better fit.

Whatever method you choose to employ, keep in mind that the purpose of your directory submissions is to generate links back to your site that contain the keywords that you want to rank well in the search engines for. This means paying close attention to the keywords you put in the title of your submission and the descriptions.

Even though directory submission has lot much of its value in recent years, it is still a valuable method for search engine optimization and should be employed as part of a diversified link building campaing. However, keep in mind, that like all other aspect of SEO, you will get maximum value when you take the time to do it consistently and methodically, and if you don't see yourself being able to follow through in your efforts, then you should consider finding someone who can help you with your SEO.
