By: Manash Choudhory Home | Computers-and-Technology | Software

Debate is still on; how does an open source company make money? This has been an ongoing question for any traditional brick-and-mortar company and will always be a challenge for a normal person to understand is Open source really mean open. We have been delivering custom build applications on Open Source and have developed a niche in building enterprise level application to suit different vertical needs. Before I get to what we are doing with Open Source, let me first tackle the fundamental question on Open Source. Open Source is literally like an engine which has no intrinsic value unless its been housed in a body, energized by fuel and configured for the right vehicle.

Open Source is the foundation platform which offers a framework of how one can achieve certain business processes by configuring, organizing or customizing. And yes, this is where the Open Source companies make money and where the boundary is drawn between an Open Source company and a revenue based company. We at Corelynx through our past five years engagement with Open Source have helped us shape up our product portfolio for different vertical markets viz. Insurance, Credit Repair, Real Estate, Automobile Online Marketplace and Customer Relationship and Acquisition management. We take pride in having two of our product architecture got patented. From customer point of view the biggest challenge is the selection of the right product framework and then defining how the configuration or customization can take place.

It is very important to plan the usage of Open Source framework in such a way that they are upgrade safe and flexible enough for future enhancements. Corelynx has diversified its operations using Open Source for Business Applications, Content Management and Personalization, Customer Acquisition and Management and Internet Marketing. Through the use of Open Source, it has benefited Small and Medium enterprises, who previously compromised the use of technology due to high cost of ownership and heavy time commitment.
