Does Submitting To Directories Get You Tons Of Traffic To Your Site?

By: dusty road Home | Internet-and-Business | ECommerce

What would be another way on internet marketing that could get you tons of traffic to your site? I would like to tackle on directories submissions. As a newbie, I see that there are two kinds of directories, the search directories and the web directories. Examples of search directories would be the big three of search engines namely google, yahoo and msn. Whenever you have a new site you can submit it to these three big search engines so that your site will be listed and get indexed. Don't you think getting indexed in search engines will get traffic to your site? My answer is YES. Being recognized by search engines is a good thing since you will be listed whenever a person looks for some information for a specific keyword search. It would be up to these search directories on how to rank your site. Think of it this way, you have a phone number and you would want to share your phone number to others, so you go to telephone directories and submit your profile. Now, whenever somebody would want to contact you, maybe he or she is one of your long lost friend he would go to these telephone directories to have your phone number and home address. It helps right? So goes with submitting our urls to search directories, whenever somebody would search on search engines for a specific keyword then a list of webpages will be posted and yours will be included whenever your site is related to the searched keyword.

Web directories are not like search engines and does not display a list of webpages based on keywords but instead it shows a list of websites by categories and subcategories. Yahoo has its own web directory called Yahoo Directory, better check this out so that you will have a better understanding of the difference between a search directory and a web directory. On a search directory what you do is to type in a keyword for example make money online for free" and the search engine would give you a long list of websites which have or contains the said keyword phrase. On web directories it's different; you will see categories and subcategories. Like all websites are allowed to be submitted in a web directory but the submitter will then need to specify which category a specific website falls. Whenever you submit to web directories you have to categorize first your website by looking at given categories on these web directories. Although you can still do a general search on these web directories but as soon as the list of the search results comes in, you can see that they are all under one category.

Now the question is, does submitting to these directories get you tons of traffic to your site or it's just going to waste your time. Your guess is as good as mine. Of course it will, these directories are essential in giving you backlinks and will inform the world wide web that your site exists.
