Donate Menstrual Blood And Contribute In The Stem Cell Research

By: Akmol Home | Health-and-Fitness | Diabetes

Stem cells are those cells that replace the damaged cells of the body with new one. Generally, there are three sources for extracting the stem cells from the body. One is from the embryo that is called as embryonic stem cells. Second from adult tissues called as adult stem cells. The third one is extracted from umbilical cord blood but it is only possible during delivery. The collection of stem cells from menstrual blood storage is very easy rather than from embryonic and adult stem cells. Moreover, the process is considered to be unethical one. A very recent study has shown that menstrual blood contains high amount of stem cells which are further very useful in the treatment of wide variety of diseases.

This is the reason that scientists and researchers are encouraging women to donate menstrual blood. The procedure used to collect the menstrual blood is totally painless. The required age for donation of blood is between twelve to forty-seven years. One of the major reasons for preference of menstrual blood as compared to embryonic cells is that latter has high risk of rejection. While in earlier case it is very less due to sample of blood taken from the woman’s own body. During this process a storage kit is provided for the collection of blood during menstrual cycle. Cooling packs which come along with kit are allowed to freeze until the sample is sent back to center.

Menstrual cups are provided in which the woman is required to collect the blood. Just a teaspoon of fluid is collected and then refrigerated. This way it is very easy to store and preserve menstrual blood. The only thing that needs to take care of is that the collected menstrual blood must be placed at a particular temperature. Many of the organizations these days are working as menstrual blood bank. They store blood obtained during menstrual cycle of women. There are fixed charges of collection and further storage of the blood. It is another fact that few doctors consider it very early to come at any conclusion. On the other hand, many institutes claim to get inspirational results from the studies and researches being done in the laboratory.

Currently, researchers and scientists need large quantity of menstrual blood to conduct further research. They claim that menstrual blood has the capability to cure several diseases such as cancer, heart stroke and various other incurable diseases. It has still not been tried on human beings. So, they appeal all women for donation of menstrual blood and thus help to bring new advancement in this field. The stem cells are proving to be very much beneficial in the medical and health sector. According to a study, it has been found that human brain and heart also contain stem cells. Hence, one can conclude that there is a hope to do advanced research in the field of heart and brain diseases that are considered to be fatal today.
