Most people are eager to earn a little extra money online these days, particularly if they find that their job just isn’t cutting it for paying bills. If you can write a high school report or essay, however, then you should be able to write online articles. Writing is not for everyone, but it is a great way to earn some extra money if you can write decently. What many don’t realize is that in order to write online articles, you don’t need to be an amazing writer. While your level of skill definitely dictates how much you will be paid and those who simply can’t write a coherent sentence won’t find work, just about anyone can sell their articles on the internet. How to Get Started To begin with, you should take a look at what is already out there. Check out some websites in the area that you are interested in writing for. Notice how the articles are written. In general, informative articles will sell better than those that are conversational in tone. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you can’t sell other types of articles, but you will certainly do better with the more informative ones. The next step is to write at least one sample article. You can write on nearly any topic you want. Make sure you spell check. This is particularly important if you tend to make a lot of mistakes . . . no one wants to hire someone who can’t spell or write with the right grammar. If you know you have a problem with this, brush up on your writing skills before applying to any jobs. The final step is to start applying for jobs. This can be very time consuming and it is a bit discouraging if you don’t get any positive responses at first. Just remember that there is quite a bit of competition out there, so you may need to apply for quite a few jobs before you get one, particularly if you don’t have any references or published works. Don’t let this stop you from trying, though. Most people are quite willing to hire someone based entirely on their sample articles. If you want to write articles online, actually getting started is the biggest hurdle. Once you have a couple of jobs under your belt, you’ll feel confident and able to continue applying. And, further down the road, you will probably have enough clients that you won’t need to constantly be applying for work. Your reputation will spread by word of mouth if you’re good and you will be able to pick up more work this way, as well.
