Time was when the only way you could teach yourself the piano, short of getting yourself a piano teacher, was to buy a teach-yourself book and get going. But you'd pretty quickly find that it's not very easy at all. There are two main reasons: 1. Beginners piano lessons in book form are nearly always targeted at children. The layout contains pictures of cuddly bunnies, elves, fairies and the like. There is not really much else that the author can do. What would you do to make a book appealing to kids? The tunes are remarkably banal. Admittedly, if you're a complete beginner you're not going to want anything too complex. But, for an adult, the ideal beginner's piano tune is a simple rendition of a well known tune or melody. That way, you know what the tune is supposed to sound like before you play it. With children, they don't know any well-known tunes so it doesn't matter what you give them to play. 2. And this brings me to my second point. Try getting a piano lessons book and open it at any page. What do you hear? Nothing. That's the problem with books. They're silent. All books are. And that makes your piano lessons so much more difficult than they need to be. Imagine that you sit down for your first lesson. You'll read some text that tells you what you're about to do and where the notes are etc. Then it gives you a stave with a few notes on it. They could be BBAGGBBAGGBB or something similar. Now remember, you're a complete beginner. What is this supposed to sound like? For sure, you'll never be able to hear it from a book. Well, with simple pieces such as this, you can work out what it'll sound like without much difficulty. But with a proper tune with differing note lengths, it's much more difficult when you're a beginner. But there's no need to make your piano lessons less easy than they could be? The ideal, (and cheap!) solution is one of the e-book piano courses that you can download from the Internet. Through the miracle of electronics you can not only read what the notes look like on the page, but at the click of a button, you can hear a professional playing it as it should be played. Believe me, this makes a world of difference. It makes the term easy piano lessons come true at last. No more need you struggle to understand what it is that you're playing. You'll know exactly every time. And that can only be a good thing.
