Eft Basics For The Novice

By: Dr. Theodore R. Herazy Home | Self-Improvement | Stress-Management

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a rapidly expanding and user-friendly method of Alternative medicine that is a branch of energy psychology, often described as â€acupuncture for the emotions,†but without the use of needles. Or, to phrase it differently, EFT therapy is acupressure for the emotions. In the expanding field of energy medicine EFT is the fastest growing therapy devoted to stress and related untoward emotions. It is used most for natural pain relief, PTSD (posttraumatic stress disorder), anxiety, phobias, mild depression, and negative emotions in general.

When used correctly, the effect of EFT tapping on acupressure points is to balance the flow of energy within the acupuncture meridian pathways by simply tapping on a small group of acupuncture points found on the trunk, face and hands. The purpose of the EFT tapping protocol is to restore balance and movement of this energy system, thereby neutralizing emotional interference and distress at its source. Once this is performed, the body and mind will almost immediately correct and repair the corrupted emotional circuit within the energy pathway that is experienced as the common feeling of distress and anxiety. As a result, the mental circuit that was â€tapped on†with the EFT method will no longer cause a distress response when it is used. After EFT tapping, the person will then feel calm, in control and completely comfortable when engaged in the formerly distressing memory or event.

EFT is user-friendly, safe, and often does not require repeated or prolonged therapy. Gary Craig, a Stanford engineer and personal performance coach in California, developed EFT in the mid-90s. He dedicated his life’s work to teaching everyone how to use EFT to overcome emotional and physical blocks to happy and stress-free living. This inability to live successfully can be expressed as depression, migraine headaches, fear of spiders, inability to earn more than $50K a year, cancer, or the inability to give, receive or feel love. Gary has promoted EFT to work within the medical community because of his remarkable generosity to share his discovery with the world.

Those great changes in a person’s emotional experience that Emotional Freedom Technique can accomplish are easily and quickly performed in an office setting or while doing EFT by phone. Anger, depression, phobias, worry, fear, anxiety, insomnia, plus a wide array of other negative emotions can be treated with the energy psychology of EFT. Often after just a few EFT telephone sessions, most people feel decidedly more calm and controlled in their everyday encounters.

EFT is gentle, safe and easy to use. It has continually demonstrated a remarkable capacity to relieve emotional and physical distress, and to do it rather quickly †often after traditional methods have failed. No side effects are reported in the psychology literature after many hundreds of thousands of EFT sessions have been done in the last 15 years. If have any doubt or hesitancy exists about EFT methodology, it would be best to consult a trained EFT therapist who full knowledge of the technique.
