English Premier League - Arsenal Beats Manchester City

By: Stephen Lars Home | Recreation-and-Sports

Arsenal closed the ninth round of the Premier League with a 3-0 win over Manchester City. With this victory, Arsenal managed to score three additional points and now stands second in the English Premier League with 17 points.

Arsenal began the 2010/11 season showing a well-build team that has remained steadfast in its goal to reach and displace Chelsea, the defending champions of the Permier League, from the top spot.

The Gunners’ finished last season in third place. This year the team has rearranged its players and now seeks to add its fourteenth league title. The last time that Arsenal was the Tournament’s Champion was in 2003-04. The following season the team was second, losing to Chelsea in the final. Along with being the runner-up in the UEFA Champions League in 2006, these have been the most important recent victories at Arsenal.

The team coached by Arsene Wenger began its participation in the Premier League 2010/11 with solid steps. The first meeting was a 1-1 draw against Liverpool, but the second game was a crushing 6-0 victory over Blackpool. During the next two meetings the Gunners achieved three consecutive wins and were in the second place in the team standings.

By adding a 1-1 draw in their visit to Sunderland and two defeats, one at home against Albion and against Chelsea respectively, Arsenal put at risk in the seventh round it second place. At that time, the Gunners were relegated to the third place by Manchester City, which managed to build up three consecutive victories and recover from its patchy start, which recorded two draws, one win and one defeat.

Wegner’s team then won against Birmingham and was still able to fight for the top spots in the league and even showed potential to take the title.

Manchester City, on the other hand, added its fourth consecutive win in the eighth day of the English league before losing the second place in the match against Arsenal.

In the City of Manchester Stadium, the Citizens were left with a man down after five minutes of play due to the expulsion of defender Dedryck Boyata. Arsenal took advantage of the additional man to pressure its opponents with well-organized attacks that led to the first score of the game.

French midfielder Samir Nasri, opened the scoring for Arsenal after 20 minutes. The absence of Boyata affected the performance of Manchester City, which could not order the game from then on.

Arsenal had the opportunity to increase the lead before finishing the first half, but Cesc Fabregas missed a penalty kick right before the break.

After completely disarming the opposing defense, Alex Song gave Arsenal a 2-0 lead on the 66th minute. The final goal was scored by Nicklas Bendtner for Arsenal after 88 minutes of action.

This result gives Arsenal the chance to regain second place in the Premier League to continue in their struggle to remove Chelsea from the first-place. Meanwhile, Manchester City fell to fourth. In third place sits Manchester United.
