Medicine which means â€the art of healing’ involves health care practices for prevention and treatment of illness and restoring the health of a person. Doctors, who study medicine, specialize in various fields such as Cardiology, Gynecology, Ophthalmology, pediatric, orthopedic etc. Some doctors specialize in surgery. There are various specialties in surgery like orthopedic surgery, Pediatric surgery, cardiovascular surgery, General surgery, Transplant surgery, Plastic surgery etc.

Doctor’s who specialize in Plastic surgery is known as a Plastic Surgeon. Plastic surgery is defined as â€Surgery to remodel, repair or restore body parts, especially by the transfer of tissueâ€. Many people are not quite satisfied with their appearance. Some people want to change the shape of their nose, ear or eyelid. Some people want to reduce the size of their abdomen and some women want to change the size and shape of their breast. Most people live with how they look, but some people, especially who can afford it decide to undergo Plastic surgery. This surgery corrects any physical defects that have been caused due to some injury, damage, burns etc. There are two branches in plastic surgery. When surgery is done to improve the image of a person, then it is Cosmetic Surgery. This is done by grafting of tissues or by the use of silicone, which is an artificial material. Wonderful restorations have been done by very efficient plastic surgeons to make changes in the appearance of various persons, especially celebrities who crave for beauty, perfection and increased media attention.. One famous personality who had undergone plastic surgery to change his skin and looks is none other than Micheal Jackson. Other celebrities who have undergone surgeries are Britney Spears, Madonna, Meg Ryan, Kellie Pickler, David Charvet, Jenny McCarthy, Jane Seymour etc.

The other branch of plastic surgery is known as Reconstructive Surgery, which is performed to improve functions, like correction of face bones, cleft lips, scar repair, tumor removal, beast reduction etc.

Plastic surgeons specialize in certain fields. Pediatric surgeons correct the birth defects in children like cleft lips, facial defects, hand deformities etc; Surgeons who specialize in implants, deal with breast, facial implants, calf and buttock implants, to provide shape to the women’s physique; Surgeons who are specialists in body contouring perform abdominoplasty and liposuction; Surgeons specializing in facial procedures such as nose, eyelid or ear enhancing and facial uplift. Apart from this some surgeons specializes in non-surgical cosmetic procedures, which includes procedures like laser skin resurfacing, injections and facial fillers. When you select a plastic surgeon you have to make sure that he has completed five years of specialized surgical training and a minimum of two years experience in plastic surgery.

Abdominoplasty is a procedure for firming the abdomen, by removing excess fat from the abdomen to make the abdomen look slimmer. Some other types of cosmetic surgeries are; Rhinoplasty, reshaping of the nose; Otoplasty, reshaping of the ear; Blepharoplasty, reshaping of the eyelids; Liposuction, removal of excess fat; Breast augmentation; Reduction Mammoplasty, breast reduction and Mastopexy, breast lifting; Rhytidectomy, face lifting and Buttock augmentation, enhancement of buttocks.

Skin grafting is a very common procedure in plastic surgery. The skin grafts are either taken from the recipient known as Autograft, or from a donor of the same species, known as Allograft, or from donor of different species known as Xenograft.

Plastic surgery is becoming very popular and women today are turning to plastic surgeons to change their appearance and make them look more beautiful.
