The name as suggests, Environmental Impact Assessment is the study and analysis of the result of the proposed design and project. Keeping in mind all the factors, including social, economical and natural one has to see whether the outcome is positive or negative on the environment. This has come into being a practice and research known as the EIA. It helps investors, stake holders and designers on making the decision if the design should be further materialized which depends on a foresight. The prediction is made on the basis of a lot of evaluation such as that of the existing vegetation and landscape features, and the relation of the design with this evaluation. It requires not only this prediction but also if the developers are able to justify the outcome and assure benefits from the project to the society, economy and nature. There is a board known as International Association for Impact Assessment which determines the ground rules for this assessment. It is then up to the EIA representatives of the project, who come to the public hearings and inquiries with evidences on landscape matters. Persuasion by these representatives also comes into play in determining whether the project and design is beneficial altogether or not. The EIA was made into legislation in US in the 1960’s by the National Environmental Policy Act. It believes basically in decision making through rationality which would ultimately lead to objective oriented decision making. Today the EIA practice is used by clients more as tool to aid decision making rather one that would make the decision itself. Practitioners undergo proper training for this practice where they are trained on the two basic grounds of scientific methods used to show how correct the predictions made of the design are, and on management grounds where they are required to explain to create better potentiality for the design, as in the potential of benefits on the landscape and environments. Randall Thorp provides this practice and aid to projects as just a specialist service. This helps the clients in dealing with a lot of complex landscape issues. Such is the example of Pauline Randall standing as an expert witness in the public inquiry of the Cambridge shire new settlement. These services help the clients, through the skills and knowledge to successfully go through obstacles such as planning problems, and help meet their aims. This service can be availed from the firm contacting them through their website just a mouse click time away.
