Like everything else, the car hire companies also have an insurance policy of their own. The car hire insurance is necessary because at some time or the other, everybody requires hiring a car during their trip to a particular place. The car hire insurance would free the tourists from the worries about the maintenance of the car. Car hire anywhere in the world needs to be fully insured against the third party risks as well as the risks of loss, damage or theft to the hired vehicle. Two of the most common terms which people tend to misunderstand are in fact the most important ones. The first one is the Collision Damage Waiver (CDW). According to this, the car rental companies in the UK are required to ensure that the vehicle is covered against claims from third parties. It also covers the hirer for damage to the vehicle for which he or she is responsible. This cover is also likely to extend to any loss or damage to the vehicle as a result of its being stolen. CDW usually excludes damage to the roof, underside, tyres and windows of the vehicle, and the cost of any damage must therefore be borne by the hirer. The second important term with regard to the car hire insurance is Supplemental Liability Insurance (usually referred to simply as SLI).This is an optional car hire insurance extra which increases the level of cover in the event of third party claims. While purchasing the optional elements of the car hire insurance, it should be remembered that although most will be available directly from the car rental companies, considerable savings will be made by purchasing the cover separately through independent UK-based insurance providers for the use with hire car agreements anywhere in the world. Hence, make sure you get your hired car insured well before taking it out on the roads.
