Weight loss is about eating healthy food and exercising but sometimes people find it hard to just do those two things and resort to extreme, and unnecessary, approaches to losing weight. Some of these approaches are dangerous to their health and in most cases they do not work in the long wrong anywase. Rather than fixing the problem they make it more of a struggle for overweight individuals and it becomes a constant struggle to lose with. Here are some of those extreme approaches. Fad diets You see it on almost every website page you look at. There is an ad for a guaranteed to lose fat diet. While some of them may be talking about healthy ways to lose weight most of them are talking about fasting of some sorts. Fasting can include extremely low calorie diets or special diets that you take for weeks or months until the weight is gone, which in reality is low calorie diets. When you almost starve yourself you can end up with many problems including acidosis, postural hypotension, increase in urinary loss of important electrolytes, increase in serum uric acid, constipation, and a decrease in basal metabolic rate There has also been sufficient loss of heart muscle that has resulted in death. Body Wraps I had a friend who wanted to try this and I went along with her to see what it was all about. Honestly it felt good but it really didn't change our bodies at all. These wraps claim to help weight loss in different areas of your body and also claim to clear up your cellulite issues. Wouldn't that be nice! So we run there for the quick fix but honestly if there is any weight loss it is most likely from water loss. I would rather go to the spa and get a massage then pay for something that gives me temporarily water loss. I can do that on my own. Drugs I've also seen a friend use this first hand and while she did lose weight at the time she has gained it all back. To be honest she was eating less when taking the drugs too so it is only natural that she lost weight. While she was on the drug she was very hyper, emotional, and irrational. What a price to pay just to lose some weight. You do not want to be on these drugs for the rest of your life! You need to lose the weight without drugs and see the results of that effect continue for your lifetime. Surgery - Liposuction and Gastric Banding In my book, surgery should only be used for absolutely essential problems that have no other avenue. Weight loss is not one of them. Yes surgery works. I've again see it firsthand and it works well. But it's complete laziness and vanity that drives people to it and surgery always comes with a chance of complications attached to it. Surgery is painful and carries the risk of infection, disfiguring, blood clots, and possible kidney failure. Do you really want to take chances with your health when you could just be adopting a new way of life that helps you lose the weight naturally? Weight loss is hard for many people and I understand that completely but the hard things in life are what make us stronger and losing weight without fad diets, body wraps, drugs, and surgery, feels amazing and feels like something to be proud of. Use fun ideas like the Wii for exercise and make small decisions that help you change the way you eat.
