The eyes are indeed one of the most essential organs in our body. Through the eyes, we can see the world we live in and appreciate the beauty and wonders of it. Our eyes also express our emotions and feelings. Doesn't it feel great to cry and let the tears flow when you feel upset? We can easily tell when someone is happy, frightened, sad or angry just by looking at his eyes. Close your eyes for a moment and imagine that you didn't have them. It feels melancholic, doesn't it? The eyes are also an important organ for perception. We learned the ways of the world with the great help of our eyes. We were easily taught how to read through visual aids and symbols. On the other hand, the eyes are also one of the most sensitive parts of the human body. They are exposed to different harmful elements and chemicals. Being exposed to the external environment, the eyes can get easily irritated and infected. An infection or trauma can cause damage not only to the structure but also to the function of the eyes, our vision. Thus, it is indeed very important for us to take good care of this precious gift.
How do we take care of our eyes and eyesight?
There are a lot of things we can do to protect our eyes from harm and preserve its integrity and maintain its functionality. First of all, a healthy diet must always be considered. Foods rich in vitamin A are said to be of great help in maintaining a perfect vision. This vitamin can also keep the youthful glow of the eyes. Broccoli, pumpkin, carrots, spinach and organ meats are just some of the natural sources of vitamin A.
A great part of keeping our eyes healthy is by doing a few protective and preventive measures. The UV radiation of the sun is notorious in causing skin, hair as well as eye diseases. It is said to cause premature aging of our cells. We can not always avoid being exposed to sunlight and will have our share of the harmful UV rays every now and then that is why we must always be geared with protective sunglasses when going out specially during summer months when the heat of the sun is intense. It is also in the summer when most outdoor activities are done. You can choose from a variety of styles and colors of sunglasses available in the market. You can either visit an optical store or shop for sunglasses online. You’ll surely find yourself looking at a number of options.
If you are the kind of person who is always exposed to harmful chemicals or your work entails handling substances that can cause damage to the eyes, protective glasses should always be part of your getup. Remember that is always better to be sure than sorry.
Computers now are a big part of our daily lives. Some jobs require staying at the computer for a very long time. Do you know that computer screens emit radiation that damages the eyes? Have you tried working at your computer for long hours without rest? Your eyes felt tired and sore, didn’t they? Wearing computer eyeglasses will protect your eyes from the harmful radiation. These are also some sort of special reading glasses. Having frequent rest periods is also as necessary.
There are various reading glasses styles available in the market today. You can look stylish and fashionable with the different eyeglass frames that come in different colors and shapes. You can pick the one that best fits you. If wearing eyeglasses doesn’t fit your style or the activities you are engaged in don’t permit wearing eyeglasses, you have the option to wear contact lenses. These small lenses are becoming more and more popular today. They are very fashionable and handy. As contact lenses become a fad these days, many optical shops offer packages and great deals. You can also find a pair of cheap contact lenses that suits your needs. Isn’t it amazing to know that you can now change the color of your eyes as often as you like? However, you must also be careful in wearing contact lenses as misuse of this may cause more serious damages to your eyes.
Never forget to always have clean hands when touching our eyes for the disease causing organisms are carried by our hands and they can hardly be seen by the naked eyes. Be sure to always consult an eye expert such as an ophthalmologist for eye problems.
