Eyelid Surgery, Teens

By: Pablo Scott Home | Health-and-Fitness | Beauty

Eyelid surgery is a common procedure for many people. It involves correcting drooping eyelids and puffy bags. This helps create a more youthful appearance and removes the tired look from around the eyes. This procedure does not remove wrinkles around the eyes, however. Nor does it eliminate dark circles under the eyes. The procedure often accompanies other surgery on the face such as a face-lift or brow lift. The first step in receiving any cosmetic surgery procedure is to speak with certified surgeon. Teens need to bring their parents with them to the consultation.

For teens, eyelid surgery can help with droopy or baggy eyelids that run in the family. As people age and approach their forties or fifties, many get a tired look around the eyes. Blepharoplasty can alleviate this problem. Most candidates for this type of surgery are in their forties and fifties. They are in good health and do not have certain medical conditions. Some surgeons will postpone procedures while the patient stops taking certain medications for a period. This helps prevent post-operative clotting and bleeding. Some of the minor complications following surgery include blurred vision, temporary swelling, and difficulty closing their eyes first few days.

The most important decision in any surgery is selecting the proper surgeon. This is the same with eyelid surgery. You will need to provide a complete medical history and make sure that the doctor knows of any medications that you take. You will also need to tell him about our any vitamins or supplements. If you smoke or drink excessively, make sure the doctor knows about this. You will need to go through preliminary testing for vision and tear production. Make sure that you and your surgeon are on the same page as far as expectations and goals for the surgery. Be clear on what procedures you want done. That is one reason why teens need their parents along during any appointments.

Make sure you fully understand the techniques and anesthesia procedures. Know where the facility is where the surgeon will do the eyelid surgery. You also need to know about the costs involved. Most insurance policies will not cover the costs. You may be required to pay up front or obtain financing. Ask the doctor about any questions you have prior to the surgery. If you think of something after consultation, call his office and leave a message. For teens, a parents participation will help make the surgery go easier and the results happen faster.
