If you are graduating soon your main aim is to get settled in a decently paid job. You will be happy to know that getting a job for college grads is not such a difficult thing. The most important factor is to know where to look or which job would be best for you. In fact it has been observed that a better alternative is to start with a slightly low salary in a company that has proper career plan for you and in a company with enormous growth prospects. You can also go through an internship program before you graduate or right after to increase your salability in job market.

Internship is very much like an apprenticeship where the individual joins a company to receive on ground training for a job in his or her field. This helps the individual, be it a college student or a graduate earn practical working experience. It helps them to evaluate if they are well equipped to enter a field or in developing some important contacts. It also helps them to get a job once they graduate. In fact, the companies where they do internship absorb them once they finish their college. This is a great way to get jobs for college grads. On the other hand, the companies hiring interns invest on these students so that once they join the company they are already familiar with the working procedures. If the interns turn out to be good they would require no training.

Internship can be of various types. It could be paid internship where the student receives a small stipend like in a medical colleges and big multinationals. Then there is voluntary or unpaid internship. Here internees are not paid but they gain useful experience. The time period and daily profile also varies from company to company. Most of them are part time when the student are attending university classes. But full time employments during vacations can also be arranged that normally last for 6 to 12 weeks.

The trend of internship depends on the field in which the individual is majoring from the university. The students prefer to intern in companies where they would be absorbed after they complete their studies. Once the internship is over one starts looking for a job. They normally search online portals for jobs for college graduates. Educational and other factors play a major role there. Better paying jobs for college grads are offered to students who show good results or impressive project reports and assignments.

Starting salary will mean a lot for most of the fresh graduates but this should not be the only criteria to accept a job offer. You should find an internship program that requires you to apply the knowledge you have earned in the university. In a highly specialized field it will be worthwhile to wait for sometime before taking up jobs for college grads. But if you accept some profiles that does not match your qualification, it may be a long time you can go back to the field you are actually interested in.

If you take a little time to survey while looking for jobs for college grads you should consider whether there will be adequate salary hikes, get regular promotions and what will be your position say, after 5 years from now? Talk to your mentor of the internship program to have a satisfying and fulfilling working experience.
