Symptoms of Fibrocystic Breast Disease include pain, mobile lumps in the breast tissue, tenderness and intermittent swelling and hardening of the breast tissue. Because of the hormonal influence, these symptoms may worsen the week before a woman's period starts. The upper-outer quadrant (the area closest to the underarm) is the most common site on the breast for these changes to occur. For adult women, a mammogram is a part of the recommended diagnostic procedures to be done regularly to check for the presence of cysts or tumors that may or may not be cancerous. A fibrocystic breast disease is often diagnosed through this procedure. During examination, it presents itself as a hardened lump on at least one breast. There are hardly ever any additional symptoms other than that. But there are those who experience severe pain and tenderness in the breast area during their menstrual period. Women between the ages of thirty and fifty are most affected by fibrocystic breast disease. It is rare for women younger than thirty to have it, but not impossible. More often than not, the symptoms are mild and not of great concern - while some women have reported a lot of pain. Menopause usually marks the end of fibrocystic breast lumps but in some cases it persists afterwards. The fluid retention that accompanies hormonal changes before menstruation is well known. What is less well known is that these changes may also lead to fluid accumulation in the breasts of some women. These may develop into lumpy or painful fluid-filled cysts or into nodules called fibroadenomas. Fibrocystic breasts are considered to be extremely common and are composed of tissue that is either lumpy or bumpy in texture. These lumps can range from the size of small BB's to as large as eggs in some cases, and are often referred to as nodular or granular breast tissues. It was not that long ago that this condition was referred to as fibrocystic breast disease, but that has changed for one very simple reason; it is not a disease. Breast is one of the most important organs of a woman's body. Apart from rendering her with her feminine sensuality the primary function of breast is to generate and provide milk to the new ones. The basic functioning of a woman's breast is very complex and is controlled by many different types of hormones. Problems in breast can cause many other types of psychological and problems in women. The hardening of the skin on your chest area or the development of small lumps on your breast could indicate a benign change called Fibrocystic breast disease. Calling it a disease, is in fact misleading. It refers to the change that the tissues on the chest undergo during the monthly cycle due to hormonal changes.Since the disease can start affecting them as early as thirty, cosmetic concerns are also a valid reason for many of them to find an effective treatment for the condition. Although enzymes for fibrocystic breast are not a fully medically supported treatment, it seems to work for some patients who have tried it. In general, it is good for your body as it regulates and helps balance your digestive, immune, and hormonal systems with each other.
