Finding The Right Hermanus Accommodation

By: Kelly Wheeler Home | Travel-and-Leisure

Step 1: Know what is on offer

Knowing what attractions and activities are on offer in Hermanus can go a long way in helping you to decide on the right accommodation option. For instance, the town is famous for its whale watching †Southern Right Whales frolic in the ocean around the town for a significant part of the year and the coastal paths mean that a boat and binoculars are not necessary to see them. If whale watching is your main reason for visiting Hermanus, then choose accommodation that is near the coast, or preferably even with sea views so that you can watch the whales from your bedroom window. On the other hand, if you want to explore the town itself and meet the people, then it is possible that accommodation more towards the centre of town would suit you. Without an ocean view, these accommodation options are often cheaper and ensure that you’re in walking distance of all the town’s best features.

Step 2: Will you have a car?

While most things in Hermanus are within walking distance of each other, some attractions do require a short drive. If you want to explore the nearby golf courses or wine estates, you will need to have your own car. Otherwise, choose accommodation that is close to the town centre as well as the coast to ensure that you can walk to any activity that catches your fancy.

Step 3: Consider your meals

Before you decide on your Hermanus accommodation you need to decide on how you would like to eat while you are on holiday. If you would like all your meals provided, then you need to look for accommodation options that offer three meals a day. If you would like to have the freedom to explore and not be restricted by hotel meal times, then a better accommodation choice would be one that is either self-catering or that offers optional meals. Perhaps the best of both worlds is accommodation that offers breakfast only. This ensures that you are ready for the day ahead and still have the flexibility to spend the rest of your day as you please. It is also worth bearing in mind that Hermanus is quite a sleepy town and many restaurants don’t stay open too late. It might be wise to choose an accommodation option that has a bar or restaurant facility that stays open a little later should you return from your exploring too late for the rest of the town.

Once you know what you want to see, what you are eating, if you’re driving and if you want a room from which to watch the whales, the rest is simple. Hermanus’ accommodation options are all excellent facilities that each offers a unique experience of the town. Whether you want an older traditional feel to your room or a modern, fresh apartment, Hermanus will have the right accommodation option for you, all you need to do is book.
