Fitting A Wooden Floor Effectively

By: Liamk Gardner Home | Home-and-Family | Home-Improvement

Wooden floors have been popular since decades and even today people prefer to have a clean natural look for their houses. There are several advantages of having a wooden floor because of which they have been very popular. A major benefit with this type of flooring is that it is easy to fit at home without having to call a specialist.

Homeowners who are planning to fit wooden floors in their home on their own should follow the below mentioned steps:

â€The first step in laying a wooden floor is to prepare the room or the area where the floor is to be laid. It is essential to make sure that the floor is even and leveled out. All nails and any other protrusions should be removed. Once the surface is prepared properly, the laminates or the wooden floor can then be laid.
â€Before laying the wooden floor it is essential to fix an underlay on the floor on which the wooden floor would have to be placed. Underlay can be purchased from any flooring store or hardware store. It is necessary to ensure that the underlay is made from good quality for getting the right results. It would generally be made from foam and would need to be laid out in sections in the area where the floor is to be placed.
â€In areas where there is a high level of dampness or moisture, the underlay would have been be made from a damp proof material so that it doesn’t get damaged due to the dampness in the floor.
â€Once the underlay is laid down, the floor can then be fitted. Start from a corner of the room and leave a small gap between the first row of boards and the wall. Once the first row of wooden boards is placed on the floor, start with the second.
â€Boards can also be placed in an irregular, staggered fashion like using half of one board rather than the full to make it better looking and to avoid any obvious lines on the floor. In most cases, details and instructions would be given from the stores along with the wooden boards.
â€One entire row of the boards would have to be fitted and then lifted to place them properly before they can be joined to the first row of boards.
â€Continue to place the boards in the same fashion, finishing one row before moving on to the next until the entire floor is covered. Once this is done, any odd spaces or angles which are left out would have to be measured, cut and placed to fit the space. All along the sides of the room, an expansion gap should be kept between the boards and the wall. This gap can then be covered with an edge beading or a skirting board.

Laying a wooden floor at home is not very difficult, especially since in most cases detailed instructions are provided by manufacturers.
