Five Tips To Start Sewing

By: Donna Trumble Home |

Sewing opens a fabulous new world of color, texture, and creativity. This is a hobby you can enjoy for a lifetime with a constant flow of new possibilities.

Tip One. Visualize your sewing potential. Picture your own creative possibilities. The things you can imagine, you can create.

The potential is limitless. Soon you will be creating your own wonders. You may turn ordinary pants, jackets, or shirts into amazing wearable art. You may dream up fabulous projects to embellish your home. Your projects might include anything from lamp shades, to pillows, to wall hangings, to comforters, to table runners and placemats, to window treatments. Dream about your possibilities. Energize your passion.

Tip Two. Find A Teacher. Take a sewing course. Read and develop your sewing skills. Learn the right ways first. Search your yellow pages for sewing machine dealers, fabric shops, sewing schools, and quilt shops. Wherever people who sew come together, you will find teachers ready to reveal the secrets of sewing. There are workshops, classes, sewing retreats, community classes, and even colleges that teach sewing. Search the internet for articles, books, ebooks, and online classes.

Tip Three. You need the right sewing equipment and tool. While you can get cheap sewing machines, tools, fabrics, and notions; the frustration they bring is not worth it. Quality tools and equipment make for less stress, less hassle, and more fun. Make good investments based on best qualities and features.

You need a good quality sewing machine. If you seek out an independent sewing machine dealer, they will provide you with great local service, repairs as needed, and classes on your sewing machine. Avoid buying cheap. Instead, buy the best value you can afford.

Choosing the right tools and materials is a big deal. While quality tools will make every job easier; junk tools will cause endless frustration.

Always buy value. Always buy quality. Avoid frustrations, maximize your time, and end up with a beautiful and durable result.

Tip Four. Begin with simple projects. Sew Simple. Apply the principle that success breeds success. Basic Sewing instruction on simple starter projects helps develop mastery. Simple, easy projects provide ample opportunity to master basic skills like sewing straight seams, curved seams, and hemming.

Sewing is fun. Take time to celebrate your achievements. Do not let frustrations or failures hold you back. Reward yourself. Celebrate your successes.

Share your project achievements with all your friends. The support and encouragement of friends and relatives can make your sewing success even more meaningful. Share your successes.

Tip five. Develop and fine tune your skills. Expand your horizons with increasingly challenging projects. Stretch your thinking and dream of wonderful possibilities. Learn new skills. Practice. Grow. This is what it means to be alive. Sewing gives you super opportunities for this kind of growth.
