Five Ways That Proper Exercise Can Keep You Feeling And Looking Younger

By: Gen Wright Home | Health-and-Fitness

People often wonder if exercising will make them look younger. The answer is that proper exercise will always make someone look younger. When you see someone that is fit they have muscle tone, firmness and more youthful looking posture. When you see someone who is overweight, soft, flabby and out of shape they appear older.

Often people will spend money on plastic surgery; liposuction or botox, when the most simple and effective answer to staying youthful at any age is right in front of you.
And how do we attain that youthful appearance and energetic condition?

Modern research tells us that regular physical activity is the mechanism that will knock 10 - 25 years of inactive living off you so you can look younger and be healthy. Here are the top five ways it can do this:

1. Increase Fitness Hormones. Proper strength building and maintaining exercise will stimulate production of the "youth" hormone human growth hormone that decreases after age 20. If your levels drop too low you will age much more quickly on not only the inside but on the outside of your body. This hormone is the chemical messenger that will instruct every cell in every tissue and organ in your body to repair, renew and replace itself. It is the number one anti aging tool and you can stimulate it yourself with the right exercise program.

2. Increase Muscle Tissue. After the age of 35 sedentary or inactive people lose as much as one percent of their muscle mass per year. This loss of muscle takes with it the strength to live ones life to the fullest. Even getting out of bed for some people can become a real chore. To counteract this loss strength training exercise is the only activity that can rebuild and restore lost muscle tissue.

3. Increase Bone Density. Strong healthy bones often are taken for granted. Along with the muscles they are attached to people lose up to one percent of their bone density per year after the age of 30. If nothing is done to halt this loss it can lead to osteoporosis. In severe cases bones become so weak and brittle that they can break from a simple sneeze. Only through regular strength training exercise can bone loss be counteracted and bone density gradually improved.

4. Increase Metabolism. Muscle tissue is the most metabolically active bodily tissue and is where fuel is burned for energy for living. If you can rebuild as little as 5 pounds of lost muscle tissue you would increase your metabolism to burn an extra 250 calories a day, 7 days a week. This could be accomplished in just a few months of strength training and would allow you to enjoy extra food or you could use this increase to help you lose excess stored body fat. Strength training exercise is been proven to elevate the metabolic rate for longer and more permanently than any other form of exercise.

5. Increase Energy. When we restore lost muscle and strength, fatigue melts away as energy levels increase. When muscles are strengthened and are able to do their jobs better they take up their proper support positions on the skeleton. The strain is then reduced on all major systems and the energy that was being used simply to maintain the body is now available to use in daily or leisure activities.

Along with those five major benefits proper exercise has the capacity to make us feel better as well as making us stronger and more flexible so we can do more. It improves our endurance and mentally we have much to gain from exercise. It reduces depression, anxiety, helps manage stress and frustration improves feelings of physical well-being and self-confidence.

If you are new to exercise seek the help of a fitness professional to set up your program and teach you correct exercise technique. Get started right away as being inactive is not going to help you either stay or look youthful whatever your age. Not only will it prolong your life more importantly it will improve the quality of your life.
