Frightening Drug Addiction And Alcoholism Facts

By: C-P Home |

The problem of drug addiction and alcoholism are escalating and spreading to levels totally out of control. But is enough being done? Are people actually aware of the real dangers and damage that alcohol and drugs can cause?

So let me provide you with a few addiction and alcoholism facts and statistics - so you can really begin to appreciate the potential for damage and devastation that alcohol and drugs have.

1) Of all fatal road accidents - more than 50% involve alcohol.

2) Drug and alcohol abuse is a major factor in the premature death and unnecessary injury of young men and women.

3) Violent and aggressive behaviour caused by alcohol is said to account for approximately 50% of murders and 52% of rapes.

4) Around 90% of street muggings and property theft are made by addicts to support their addiction.

5) You have in the US roughly 20 million people who are over the age of 13 that use drugs - and more than 21,000 people die every year because of their drug addiction.

These are just a few alcohol and drug related facts - but I think you get the message. Considering these facts and statistics - I don't understand how the abuse of alcohol and especially binge drinking are regarded as socially acceptable? How much you had to drink and how drunk you got still seem to be major topics of conversation - with the more 'hard-core' your story, the more you seem to be accepted. Do these people not realise how many people die from alcohol or alcohol related deaths each year?

And why isn't more being done to eliminate the drug dealers, who take advantage of the vulnerable and young in our communities? It's just plain cowardice targeting youngsters, especially because they are the most vulnerable, with drugs like heroin.

My biggest concern is that things won't improve and simply continue to get worse. How do you effectively tackle such a massive problem? Our attitudes towards alcohol need to change 180 degrees - and more needs to be done to get drugs off our street. These are issues of such massive proportions.

And the addiction and alcoholism statistics I've shared with you will no doubt be constantly changing and on the increase because the problem of substance and alcohol abuse is only getting worse. So we need to each do our bit and spread the word to the dangers and damage that alcohol abuse and drugs cause. There are just too many lives at stake ...
