Geothermal Heat Pumps Reviews

By: Roberto Bell Home | Finance | Real Estate

Heat pumps what are they all about? Heat pumps like on a refrigerator work on the principle of moving energy from one source to another. They use a pump to circulate the system, a compressor to manipulate the energy in the system and to heat exchangers, one in your house and one in the ground outside. All of these work in conjunction to either gather heat from the ground and move it into your house or to take the heat in your house and move it into the ground.

Why Should I get a heat pump? The obvious reason to get a heat pump installed is to lower your heating bills. When traditional heat sources costs vary, a heat pump, once installed, has pretty stable costs that are not controlled by outside companies or foreign governments. The systems themselves are really quiet and act as both a heating and cooling system. Maintenance is fairly cheap with long warranties offered by manufacturers like Carrier and Goodman.

This all sounds to good to be true, Whats the catch? The only real catch is the initial cost to setup these systems. It can cost anywhere from 10k to 30k to get the right system setup for you. If you are like me and spend $100-$200 a month on heating or cooling $10,000 even is a hefty investment. The savings from the lower energy bills will take 10-20 years to break even and eventually costs me less then keeping my traditional heating and cooling. This is a problem and the government does try to help with various federal and state tax credits to help subsidize these up front costs a little sooner.
