Home Teeth Whitening Treatments You can buy whitening toothpastes that you can use instead of your regular toothpaste. These contain a small amount of abrasive materials that work by gently scrubbing the surface of your teeth. Laser Teeth Whitening You dentist may be able to offer you laser teeth whitening treatments. This can be very effective on badly stained teeth as the bleaching agent used is much stronger and is enhanced by using a special bright light. These procedures can last between one and two hours. Although laser teeth whitening is not a painful treatment it can still be a little uncomfortable. You will need to wear a mouth shield to protect your gums and sit still for long periods of time. Veneers If your teeth are very sensitive or weak then using bleaching treatments can exacerbate these conditions, so you might want to consider having veneers fitted instead. This is a simple procedure that can be carried out by your dentist. A mould will be taken of your teeth and then thin layers of porcelain shaped to fit each tooth. These will then be glued over your teeth to create a new, fresh surface. Veneers can be made in a range of tooth colours so you can achieve a very natural finish and they can last for a long time. However the edges of the veneer can be brittle so you will have to avoid biting on anything hard otherwise they could chip. It is important to discuss teeth whitening with your dentist before you go ahead with any procedures. They will be able to look at the current health of your teeth and suggest appropriate treatments.
